Electric Trailer Brakes

Reliable braking isn't optional. Our electric trailer brakes are built to deliver consistent stopping power, predictable response, and long service life across a wide range of trailer sizes and loads.

Consistent Braking You Can Depend On

Consistent Braking You Can Depend On

Electric brakes must work in real conditions—heat, moisture, dust, and heavy loads. We supply brake assemblies designed to:

  • Deliver smooth, even braking
  • Reduce uneven wear
  • Integrate properly with standard brake controllers

Brake Solutions for Common Trailer Applications

Our electric brake offerings support:

Trailer Types

  • Single-axle and tandem-axle trailers
  • Utility, cargo, and equipment trailers
  • Light- and medium-duty commercial applications

Configurations

Configurations are available to match common axle ratings and hub/drum combinations.

Matched Components Matter

Brakes don't work in isolation. Proper compatibility between axles, hubs, drums, and brake assemblies is critical. Our team understands those relationships and helps ensure you're running components that work together correctly.

Need Help Selecting the Right Brakes?

Selecting the correct brake assembly ensures safety and compliance. We can help you match your brakes to your axle rating and drums.

Electric Brakes Technical Guide

How do electric brakes work?
Electric brakes use an electromagnet that activates when the tow vehicle's brake controller sends an electric current. The magnet pushes the brake shoes against the drum, creating friction to stop the trailer. Braking force is proportional to the current sent.
What size brake controller do I need?
The brake controller must be rated to handle the total current draw of all brake magnets. For example, 4 brakes at 3.5 amps require a controller rated for at least 14 amps. Always choose a controller with capacity above your total needs.
How do I adjust electric brakes?
Electric brakes are adjusted by turning the star wheel inside the brake drum. Turn the star wheel up until the wheel locks, then back off 6-8 clicks until the wheel spins freely with slight drag. Adjust both sides evenly.
How often should I replace brake magnets?
Brake magnets should be inspected every 12,000 miles or annually. Replace them if the magnet face is worn to less than 1/16", if there are cracks, or if electrical resistance is out of spec (typically 3-4 ohms).
Why do my brakes activate but not stop the trailer?
Common causes include worn brake shoes, brakes out of adjustment, weak brake magnet, glazed brake drums, or corroded electrical connections. Check adjustment first, then inspect shoes and magnet for wear.
What are the brake wire color codes?
Blue = brake output from controller, White = ground, Red = 12V+ from battery, Black = vehicle ground. Each brake magnet has two wires (typically white and blue) that connect to the controller blue wire and frame ground.
